Two In Coldiron Indicted For Their Role In Harlan Man's Murder

Two people are in custody after being indicted on June 5th by a Harlan County grand Jury for a Harlan man's murder. 30-year-old Joe Johnson Jr. and 35-year-old Jessica Simon both of Coldiron have been indicted for their roles in connection with the death.


Indictments obtained by WRIL state that on or about May 6th of this year Joe Johnson is accused of shooting Nicholas Stephens in the head resulting in his death. Count two of his indictment charges Johnson with persistent felony offender - 1st degree after being charged with an additional felony already being convicted of two or more felonies.


Jessica Simon has been indicted for complicity to murder after she conspired with Johnson to commit or facilitate the act. Count two of her indictment charges Simon with persistent felony offender - 2nd degree after being convicted of a previous felony.


While Joe Johnson is lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center with no bond, Jessica Simon is being held in the Bell County Detention Center on a $1,000,000 cash bond.
