Two Gray, Ky. Men Arrested for Wire Theft and Fleeing Police

On Thursday, August 29, 2024 at approximately 2:50 pm, Knox County Deputy Jeremiah Williamson and LT Sam Mullins responded to a report of two men stealing wire from the Cobra Coal Mine on KY 233 in Gray.


While enroute the deputies were notified that the two men had got into a vehicle and hit the vehicle occupied by the caller as they left the mine. When Deputy Williamson met the suspect vehicle, he was forced off the roadway to avoid a head on collision. After turning around and attempting to stop the vehicle, it contined on to US- 25 E and Hazel Fork Road before stopping. When the vehicle stopped, the passenger jumped out and fled into the woods.


The driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Michael J Flannelly of Williamsburg, KY, was arrested and charged with Wanton Endangerment-1st Degree/Police Officer, Fleeing or Evading Police-1st Degree, Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition-over $500 and Leaving scene of Accident-Failure to Render Aid or Assistance.


The passenger, 29-year-old Abraham P Flannelly of Williamsburg, KY was also apprehended and charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition-over $500 and Fleeing or Evading Police-3rd Degree.


Michael and Abraham Flannelly were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
