Two fugitives arrested in Claiborne County

From Claiborne county Sheriff's Department -

On Tuesday, June 14th, 2022, Detectives with the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals Service Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force arrested 68-year-old James Wood Butler Jr. of Bastrop Texas, and 49-year-old William Andrew Lee of Townsend Tennessee.


James Wood Butler Jr was a wanted fugitive from Lancaster County, Nebraska for Sexual Assault of a Child 1st Degree. William Andrew Lee was a wanted fugitive from Blount County, Tennessee for multiple counts of Aggravated Burglary.


The Claiborne County Sheriff's Office currently has two Detectives attached to the U.S. Marshals Service and they serve as sworn Special Deputy U.S. Marshals for the Eastern District of Tennessee U.S. Marshals Office Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force.


The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office affiliation with the U.S. Marshals Office allows the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office access to resources to locate and apprehend fugitives from Claiborne County and fugitives who come to the area to avoid prosecution from other jurisdictions.
