On Thursday, August 19, 2024, Knox County 911 received a call from a customer inside Barbourville Walmart stating that a man, later identified as 43-year-old James Elvie Gray of Artemus, Kentucky, touched her inappropriately and exposed himself to her inside the store.

According to the citation, Barbourville Sgt. Adam Townsley was able to speak to the female victim who stated that while in an aisle, James Gray - whom she did not know - grabbed her backside inappropriately and then stated "oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that."

The victim went on to say that she told Gray to get away from her and followed her to another aisle where he pulled his penis from his pants and proceeded to pleasure himself. Officer Townsley was able to obtain video evidence of the incident, proving the individual was James Gray.

Gray was arrested and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center, charged with sexual abuse - 3rd degree and indecent exposure.

He was released a short time after the arrest and was arraigned Monday the 23rd in Knox District Court.
