Traffic stop for speeding leads to trafficking charge for Middlesboro woman

On Sunday, February 19, 2023, Middlesboro Officer Ryan Collins conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 44-year-old Kristie Thomas of Middlesboro for speeding and making a abrupt lane change without signaling.


Upon contact with Thomas, the officer states in a citation that he smelled the odor of Marijuana. Thomas was asked to exit her vehicle stating there was Marijuana in the vehicle, which was retrieved by officers. Officer Collins asked Thomas if she had anything illegal and she turned over a large baggie of Methamphetamine weighing over 2 ounces.


Kristie Thomas was arrested and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with trafficking controlled substance - 1st degree, 1st offense (Methamphetamine), possession of Marijuana, speeding, no operators license, and no signal. Sgt Jeremiah Johnson, Ptrl Preston Saylor, Ptrl Jake Perry, and Lt Burchett assisted.
