A we previously reported, there was a third shooting reported in Harlan County in 24 hours. This incident took place at 11:00am off Highway 421 in the Cranks Creek area near Surgeners Cemetery.
KSP Trooper Shane Jacobs states that Post 10 Harlan received a call from 43-year-old Johnny Simpson that his wife Samantha Simpson had shot him multiple times in the face and body.
Once on scene, Kentucky State Police, assisted by Harland County Sheriff's Department found Johnny with multiple gunshot wounds. Samantha was located with appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Both Johnny and Samantha were then transported to Harlan ARH by Lifeguard Ambulance Service.
Harlan County Coroner Derrick Noe responded to Harlan ARH and later pronounced Samantha Simpson deceased. Johnny Simpson was subsequently transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
