From the Tazewell Police Department -

On Friday, February 17, 2023, and 5:13pm Tazewell Police Department Officers - Patrolman Dylan Browning, Patrolman Jacob Melton and Sergeant Andrew Sturgill - were dispatched to the Claiborne County Courthouse rear parking lot in reference to a possible unresponsive person.

Upon arrival approximately one minute later, Officers Browning and Melton located a vehicle in the parking lot partially out of a space still running and in gear with a male slumped over.

The officers broke the drivers side window out and pulled an elderly male from the vehicle and discovered he was not breathing. They immediately began CPR in an effort to revive the man while awaiting EMS. Shortly thereafter, Claiborne EMS arrived and took over. Unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at Claiborne Medical Center.

At this time it appears the man passed away from natural causes due to a medical emergency. The police department offers their condolences to the family, and a huge thank you for the quick response and action taken by these officers and EMS.
