As we reported previously, an incident took place in the Shawanee Community of Harrogate, Tennessee at approximately 5:15 pm on Wednesday evening, August 28th.
Claiborne County Sheriff Bob Brooks reports that deputies from his department responded to an assault involving a stabbing and shooting of a female victim by then unknown assailants.
Dozens units from the Claiborne Sheriff's Department, with the assistance of Middlesboro Police and THP, responded to the scene leading many to believe a pursuit was taking place, which it was not.
The victim sustained life-threatening injuries in the attack and was transported via Claiborne EMS to Middlesboro ARH. The ambulance was escorted by Claiborne and Middlesboro Police to the hospital. As of this report she is still in critical condition after being transferred UT Hospital in Knoxville.
Close to two hours after the incident, a male suspect that we have learned is 43-year-old David "Chicago" Janis, was taken into custody, found to be wanted by the Kentucky Probation and Parole Office for a violation of absconding supervision. He has been booked into the Claiborne County Jail. His specific role in the assault has yet to be made known to the public as this is an ongoing case with the Claiborne County Criminal Investigations Division.
Another woman involved in the incident was described in a LMU campus wide email regarding the incident as a white female with dreads and black clothing. She has not been formally identified by police, but we have confirmed she is the wife of David Janis. As of this report she has not been apprehended.
