On Thursday, January 26, 2023, a short time after 1:00pm, Tazewell Patrolman Dylan Browning - assisted by Claiborne County Deputy Josh Keaton, was dispatched to Food City in regard to an active fight. Upon arrival, the two parties involved had separated.

The victim, a Fedex worker, was making a delivery to Food City when Freddy Settles told him to move his delivery truck. The victim told Settles he could wait, and then completed the delivery. The victim told Officer Browning that after he made the delivery, he then saw Settles stepping out of the Fedex truck approaching him saying: “oh, I can wait” and then assaulted him (the victim).

Food City surveillance confirmed Settles entering the truck while the victim was in the store. However, Settles told Deputy Keaton that it was the victim that struck him first and that he got on the truck to move it out of the way.

Freddy Settles was taken into custody and lodged in the Claiborne County Jail charged with Assault and Attempted Theft Of Property $10,000-$60,000.

The victim was transported to Claiborne Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
