Missing Claiborne man found deceased, police seeking information from the public

WRIL reached out to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in regard to the news that a missing Claiborne man had been found.


Leslie Earhart with the TBI tells WRIL that at the request of 8th District Attorney General Jared Effler, TBI Special Agents are working alongside the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office and the Tazewell Police Department in investigating the circumstances leading to the death of 28-year-old Aaron Jeremiah Massengill. His body was found late Monday afternoon February 22, 2021 by a resident along Ferguson Ridge Road in Tazewell.

Aaron was reported missing on February 16, 2021. Since then flyers, news reports, a social media group, and even a reward was issued trying to find any leads in his disappearance. Several family members and volunteers from the community searched in conjunction with local law enforcement for signs of Massengill's whereabouts.


His body will be sent for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. At this time, the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no further information is available. The TBI and local law enforcement is encouraging anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area of Ferguson Ridge Road within the last week, to contact the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office at 423-626-3385 or the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
