Middlesboro Police Working A Drive-By Death Investigation - Victim And Shooter Identified

The alleged shooter in this incident has been identified as 27-year-old Leslie Sherman Webb of Middlesboro.


Has has been lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with manslaughter - 2nd degree.


KRS 507.040 states that a person is guilty of manslaughter in the second degree when he wantonly causes the death of another person.


Lt. Cowan was assisted by Investigator Ryan Collins. This investigation is ongoing.

6-6-24 11:43pm UPDATE: Bell County Deputy Coroner Jason Steele tells WRIL that the shooting victim was pronounced deceased at Middlesboro ARH and has been identified as 24-year-old James "JD" Lumpkin of Middlesboro.

ORIGINAL COVERAGE

A short time before 9:30pm Thursday night June 6, 2024, Middlesboro Police responded to a drive-by shooting that resulted in a Middlesboro man being taken to the ARH Hospital where he succumbed to gun shot wounds.


The shooting took place on Winchester Avenue in front of Midnight Market.


We understand that the shooter is in custody and is being processed at Middlesboro Headquarters as of 9:45pm before he is transported to Bell County Detention Center. His name has not been released yet.

Lt./Detective Barry Cowan is in charge of the investigation and we expect to have more once the shooter is booked.


The identity of the victim is known to some who witnessed the incident, but we cannot release his name until next of kin is notified and the proper agency has done so.
