On Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at 2:32pm Bell County Dispatch received a call of an accident with possible injuries at an address on Cannon Creek Lake Hill Road. While enroute to the accident location Bell County Deputy Marti Messer was advised by dispatch that a white male in a black t-shirt, later identified as 46-year-old Paul Miracle, was seen leaving the vehicle running up the hill.

Upon arrival, Deputy Messer searched the area, but did not find the individual. As deputies Derrick Widener, K-9 Deputy Adam Southern, and Chaplain Dorton looked for Miracle, Deputy Messer remained at the location with his girlfriend.

Miracle called the girlfriend and spoke to Deputy Messer thinking he was talking to his girlfriend. He told Deputy Messer he would explain everything once he got back. He then walked up nearby tracks through weeds to the residence.

While being taken into custody, Miracle claimed his vehicle was stolen but the keys to the vehicle were found in his pocket during a search incident to arrest.

Paul Miracle was arrested and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, and falsely reporting an incident.

Also responding to the scene was Bell County Volunteer Fire Department and Middlesboro Fire/EMS.
