From WRIL - The Big One

WRIL The Big One has learned that the labor and delivery services at Harlan ARH Hospital are being discontinued as of Friday, February 28, 2025. This move will only impact those particular services according to hospital administration.

The hospital told employees the decision "was not made lightly" and based on a steady decline in the demand for those services. This includes reallocating resources so they can focus on strengthening other services that align more closely with the "evolving needs of our community."

The Hospital also stated they are committed to supporting those individuals affected by this decision. They will also be assisting patients during the transition with referrals as the OB department at ARH Daniel Boone Clinic will remain open.

Expectant mothers are encouraged to continue prenatal care with their provider of choice and plan deliveries at other hospitals. Harlan ARH has partnered with Middlesboro and Whitesburg ARH Hospital. They added that the Harlan ARH Emergency Department remains fully operational and "ready to handle any obstetrical emergencies."

We have reached out to the hospital for more information.
