From The Williamsburg Police Department -

On March 28, 2025, Williamsburg Police received information about an individual who made threats, toward at least two individuals, who planned to attend a funeral service in Williamsburg on March 29, 2025. The nature and context of the threat was indicative of causing harm to funeral attendees. Initial information indicated the individual was heavily armed.
An investigation was initiated, and the individual was identified as Daniel Graiber, 49, of Weaton, IL. WPD Officers soon developed additional concerning information as the investigation continued into the morning of March 29, 2025.
After Graiber traveled from Illinois, WPD officers confirmed he stopped at two local gun stores in Southeast Kentucky, where he attempted to purchase a high-capacity gun magazine, specifically a 100-count drum. Shortly before the start of the funeral service, and after WPD officers alerted surrounding agencies of an officer safety bulletin, and of the threats that were made, Corbin Police spotted Graiber in his vehicle traveling south on I-75 toward Williamsburg.
Ultimately, Graiber arrived at the funeral home where he is accused of inquiring about the specific time family members were to arrive for initial visitation. There, WPD officers intercepted Graiber, where he was quickly engaged and taken into custody. During the course of the investigation, Graiber is also accused of impersonating a peace officer, by making statements indicating he worked for the CIA and that he was associated with the FBI and Kentucky State Police.
During the investigation the following items were discovered and seized:
- Three handguns.
- Multiple gun magazines.
- Ammunition.
- One law enforcement style tactical ballistic vest.
- Suspected Hydrocodone pill tablets.
- One Baton/Asp.
- One cellphone.
- Misc. items/accessories associated with the investigation.
WPD and the FBI-Federal Bureau of Investigation, is continuing to investigate this incident and additional charges are possible. The information contained in this news release is preliminary and the case is on-going.
Agencies assisting with this investigation included the Corbin Police Department, Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, and the Kentucky State Police. Graiber was lodged in the Whitley County Jail where he stands charged with Terroristic Threatening - 2nd degree, Impersonating a Peace Officer, Disorderly Conduct - 1st degree-Attempt, and Possession of a controlled substance - 1st degree.
