On Friday, July 5, 2024, Knox County Deputies responded to a complaint of a reported theft of a garden tiller at a residence on Hazel Fork Road in Gray. The owner of the tiller had attempted to hold the perpetrator until the deputies arrived but he was able to get away, however the owner was able to video the man.
After several days of attempting to locate the suspect the identity was learned by canvasing the neighborhood and talking to residents in the area.
On July 11, 2024 Sheriff Mike Smith and deputies were searching the area near were the theft occurred. Sheriff Smith located the suspect in a trailer park on US 25 E in Gray. The man attempted to flee on foot but was apprehend without incident.
Robbie Renner age 41 of Broston, KY. was arrested and charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition-over $500 and Criminal Mischief-3rd Degree. Robbie Renner was also wanted on a Whitley County Bench Warrant for failure to appear on Public Intoxication Controlled Substance and Contempt of Court charges.
While being processed at the Knox County Detention Center two (2) clear plastic bags of suspected methamphetamine were discovered hidden inside a body cavity of Robbie Renner. He was then charged with Promoting Contraband-1st Degree and Trafficking in Controlled Substance-1st Degree.
