The contract for Lee County Schools Superintendent Brian Austin was not extended Thursday night by the school board. The vote was 3-2 to not extend his contract.
Austin's contract is set to expire in June 2021.
Negotiations will take place as to whether the contract will be bought out or if he will finish out his contract. The school board chair and vice chair plan to meet with Austin.
Vice chair Mike Kidwell indicated the board could name an interim superintendent at a January meeting if a buyout is pursued. Plans to start advertising for the position are expected in January.
Kidwell expressed disappointment with the vote.
“We’ve built a future over the past four years [with Dr. Austin].”
