Children's Home Juveniles Steal Two Buses Then Wreck In Lexington

Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith reports that on Monday, June 10, 2023, at 2:43am Knox County Deputy Jesse Smith responded to a report of a bus accident at Central Elementary. Once on scene Deputy Smith found that the bus had ran through a chain link gate and became stuck.


Through the investigation it was determined that four male juveniles had walked away from the Appalachian Children's Home and two of them stole the bus from the Knox County School bus garage


After fleeing the scene, the pair then stole another Knox County School bus and were joined by the other two male juveniles. They traveled to Lexington where the bus crashed on Richmond Road. All four individuals were apprehended.


Two male juveniles are in custody and are being charged with (2) two counts each of Auto Theft $10,000 - $100,000, and a count each of Criminal Mischief - 1st degree, and Wanton Endangerment - 1st degree


The other two juveniles were returned to the children's home.


This is an ongoing investigation.
