Charge Against A Cumberland Gap Woman Upgraded After Victim Dies From Attack

We have learned that the suspect in a Harrogate stabbing and shooting from Wednesday, August 28th has now been given an upgraded charge of first-degree murder from her initial attempted murder charge. This is due to her victim, Tracy Renee Simpson, dying on September 3rd from severe injuries sustained in the attack.


48-year-old Johnna Lynn Miracle, was determined to be directly responsible for the shooting and stabbing of Ms. Simpson. After being on the run for three days she was apprehended on Sunday, September 1st at a residence at the corner of Sunset Acres and Red Hill Road off Highway 63 in Claiborne County.


On the evening of the attack, 43-year-old David "Chicago" Janis who was with Miracle, was taken into custody after he was found to be wanted by the Kentucky Probation and Parole Office for a violation of absconding supervision. Both Miracle and Janis remain lodged in the Claiborne County Jail.


Miracle is being held under a $1,000,000 cash bond.


Detective Brad Duncan and Jason Henegar are leading this investigation.
