On Friday, August 20th, 2021, the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Criminal Investigations Division with assistance from Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation conducted Operation Summer Heat.
Detectives with the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office have been working on a lengthy investigation into the distribution of large amounts of illegal narcotics being transported into and sold in Claiborne County.
Detectives were able to conduct a traffic stop on Highway 33 in Claiborne County in the evening hours of August 20, 2021. During the apprehension of 57 year old William Calvin Lanum of San Diego, California, detectives recovered a large amount of illegal narcotics which consisted of over two pounds of Methamphetamine. Detectives also located large amounts of Heroin, Fentanyl, Cocaine, Marijuana, Prescription Medication and Psilocybin Mushrooms.
William Calvin Lanum, a convicted felon out of the State of California, was also found to be in possession of two handguns at the time of his arrest. An estimated street value of $350,000 worth of illegal narcotics were seized during the arrest. William Calvin Lanum was booked into the Claiborne County Jail for multiple felony charges.
This is still an ongoing investigation at this time with more arrests expected in the future.
