A former teacher, coach, and bus driver for the Letcher County School system has been sentenced in a case regarding sexual offenses involving a female student. In November of 2023, WRIL was contacted about incidents involving then 54-year-old Brian Wesley Bailey of Benham, Kentucky.
After running a daily bus route for Letcher County Schools, Bailey was confronted by law enforcement regarding an inappropriate relationship with a female student in the school system. Bailey was arrested on Sunday, February 11, 2024 by Whitesburg Police and booked into the Letcher County Jail on a Kentucky State Police indictment warrant. He was charged with two counts of possessing/viewing matter portraying sexual performance of a minor aged 12 - 18 years old - 1st offense, rape - 3rd degree, and tampering with physical evidence.
Bailey was sentenced on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, to ten years in the penitentiary after pleading guilty on May 22nd to the charges. The two counts of criminal possession of matter portraying a minor in a sexual performance and tampering with physical evidence are to run concurrently. The charges will run consecutive to the five year sentence for rape - 3rd degree, for a total sentence of 10 years. After his release he will be on parole for five years and will have to register as a sex offender.
